Northport Adoptable Pets Of The Week: Petunia And Lulu

NORTHPORT, NY — Petunia and Lulu, two senior cats around 13 years old, were once rescued from near-death as kittens. They are in need of a new home now, according to Lora Wild, a volunteer with the Northport Cat Rescue Association. "When Petunia and Lulu were just kittens, they were at the hands of a high kill shelter," Wild said. "Sadly there was no room left. Luckily, a kind young lady was interning and it was her first day at her new job. Her first 'job duty' was to go in the back and humanely euthanize the kittens. Instead, she stuck Petunia and Lulu into her sweater pockets and ran out and never went back." The girl's mother was allergic to cats, so the girl brought them to the home of a family friend and her young daughter, according to Wild. The family fell in love and adopted the then-kittens into their family. "Fast forward 13 years," Wild wrote. "Their human sister Rebecca and her mom were living happily with Petunia and Lulu and 3 other beautiful cats, when tragically their mom passed away from COVID. Rebecca also lost her dad a few years ago. Rebecca is barely an adult herself and has been given the unimaginable task of packing up her family home and having to rehome her loyal cats she has had all their lives." Rebecca managed to find homes for three of the cats. She asked the Northport Cat Rescue Association for help, as she has a deadline she needs to be out of her home by. "As anyone could imagine she does not want to see them in a cage," Wild said. "These beautiful girls were given a miracle when they started out in life. We are hoping for another one so they can relax and be safe yet again." Petunia and Lulu get along well with other cats. They love to be pet and sleep by their human's side. "If you have room in your family and in your heart for these 2 easy going beauties, know that not only would you be rescuing Petunia and Lulu, but you would also be helping a brave young lady sleep a little more peacefully at night knowing her girls are safe and loved," Wild said. "We know her Mom would be proud of her to know she was doing everything possible to keep them together." Petunia and Lulu are spayed, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, and micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
