ORLANDO, FL — A 40-year-old Orlando man was arrested Friday and faces multiple charges related to the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol breach that disrupted the counting of electoral votes related to the 2020 presidential election, according to a news release from the Department of Justice. Robert Flynt Fairchild, Jr. has been charged with disorderly conduct, obstruction of an official proceeding, and assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers, among other offenses. According to Metropolitan Police Department body-worn camera footage, during the riot, he was on the exterior west plaza of the U.S. Capitol building, where he was seen consistently moving up and down the police line along the security gate barriers, the DOJ said. Just before 1:30 p.m., Fairchild was seen on video grabbing the security gate and attempting to remove it from the officer's control but was unsuccessful. Later, Fairchild was seen pushing with the crowd against the barriers, causing officers to use their batons and hands to fight back, the DOJ said. At 2:10 p.m., Fairchild used his body to push the barriers into the line of MPD officers, and five minutes later, helped the crowd carry away a barrier removed from the police line. He was also seen walking through the Senate wing door around 3:10 p.m., the DOJ said. And around 3:30 p.m., he was seen standing near the broken window of the south exterior door and appeared to take a video of the crowd with his phone before leaving the building.
