MEA Celebrates Its First Year! Medfield Environment Action MEA celebrated its 1st anniversary in June! The group accomplished a great deal in its first year and during a global pandemic! MEA is a grassroots organization of residents whose mission is to share information about the climate emergency to empower local action. MEA seeks to build a movement of informed citizens, dedicated to the preservation of a living environment in Medfield and beyond who support each other and work together for solutions. MEA has created a very informative website which continues to expand as MEA grows and matures. Visit the website at MEAMedfield.org to see the many resources offered, including recordings of webinars that MEA has hosted, links to informative websites, pictures of past activities, and much more. In addition, MEA has an active presence on Facebook and has live-streamed several of its webinars with the help of Medfield TV. The monthly online newsletter contains valuable snippets of what is happening at the local, state, and federal level regarding the environment. All are invited to sign up for the monthly newsletter or attend monthly meetings. Reach out to [email protected] if interested. MEA hosted many free, educational webinars over the past year with regional experts, elected officials, and our own Medfield Decarbonizers (residents who have already begun to decrease their carbon footprint)! Content of the webinars was based on a survey of residents about climate issues. The survey indicated overwhelming support for action at the local level. The webinars covered a wide range of topics including how to make homes more energy efficient and a chat with residents who installed solar panels, heat pumps or purchased electric vehicles. If you missed any, recordings for all the webinars can be found on the MEA website MEAMedfield.org as well as the results of the survey. MEA co-sponsored a Shoe-In for Climate Change in September 2020 with the First Parish Unitarian Church. Over 160 shoes were displayed on the steps and lawn of the church! Each pair represented someone concerned about the environment and wanting to take action! Many residents came by to express their support. MEA supported the town's commitment to build the first Net Zero building in town and supported energy efficient practices for Medfield State Hospital Plans. Members of MEA have worked tirelessly on both projects to provide education on the best sustainable, long-lasting outcomes for Medfield. MEA and the Medfield Energy Committee co-hosted webinars leading up to Town Meeting on Community Choice Aggregation and the Climate Action Plan for Medfield. MEA is pleased to have helped educate the community as both energy warrant articles overwhelmingly passed at Town Meeting in May. Reach out to [email protected] to inquire about becoming more involved. MEA will continue to educate residents via Facebook, monthly newsletters, presentations, webinars, and conversations regarding the climate crisis. To stay in the know, sign up for our email list at MEAMedfield.org. With your help, Medfield is on the way to Net Zero by 2050!
