Press release from the City of San Antonio: August 19, 2021 CONTACT: Victor Landa [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (August 18, 2021) – Recent heavy rain in San Antonio disproportionately affected residents in District 6, Many residents suffered from damages caused by flooding in district locations where it has not flooded in the past. In response to this emerging and potentially recurring problem, Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda has asked City staff to work towards setting aside emergency funds for residents who live in areas that have not been prone to flooding in the past. These funds would assist residents who currently do not have flood insurance and who don't qualify for FEMA assistance. "The City was very helpful in providing resources and access to resources but is it possible to create a standing emergency fund specifically for flooding," she asked during Wednesday's City Council Fiscal Year 2022 Proposed Budget work session. "We know the resources are there to provide emergency assistance for new flood victims," said the Councilwoman. "My immediate goal is to make them available in a standing way."
