Description

BROOKFIELD, CT — The Brookfield Library Art Gallery is hosting an exhibition of paintings by Katya Lebrija from Sept. 1-25. A virtual version of the exhibition will be available on the Brookfield Library's website beginning Sept. 1. A native of Mexico, Lebrija moved to the United States in 1999. Throughout her career, she has used different mediums, including watercolors and acrylics, and has also worked extensively with printmaking. Most recently, she has focused on creating mixed media pieces, where she uses different materials like acrylics, paper, leftover monotypes, fabric, gesso, ink, charcoal, oil sticks. Lebrija uses vibrant colors and textures to depict structured abstracts with subjects ranging from architecture to portraits. "I approach the canvas with an idea in mind that gets spontaneous and emotional through the process. I like to reinvent reality, to create a new vocabulary and produce abstract work in a way that always connects with the real world," Lebrija said. The gallery, which is located in the library's community room, is open during the library's regular operating hours. Visitors are asked to check in at the circulation desk before entering the gallery. Area artists are invited to submit samples of their work either in person at the library or by emailing the Brookfield Library Art Gallery Committee at [email protected]. The Committee will review all submissions and will contact those selected to schedule exhibitions. Members of the public will be able to see each exhibition virtually and in-person in the Brookfield Library's community room. For more information about the exhibition, please contact Adult Services Librarian Sarah-Ruth Tasko at (203) 775-6241 or [email protected].
