Plainfield Skateboarder, 15, Dies After Crash; Support Rolls In

PLAINFIELD, IL — The 15-year-old Plainfield boy who was riding a skateboard down Renwick Road Thursday afternoon when he collided with a pick-up truck died Sunday, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed. The medical examiner identified the boy as Tyler Eberly. The Plainfield teen was riding his skateboard between cars stopped at the intersection of Renwick Road and Route 30 Thursday afternoon, when police said he collided with a Chevy Silverado truck in the left turn lane. When officers arrived, he was lying in the roadway, police said. "Tyler died doing what he loved the most," organizers wrote on a GoFundMe page that was started Sunday to raise money for his memorial. RELATED: Boy On Skateboard Collides With Chevy Truck On Renwick Road: Cops The teen was taken to a Joliet hospital before he was airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after the crash Thursday. He died around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. Later that evening, his family started a GoFundMe page to raise money to help cover memorial expenses. Since the campaign started, the family has raised more than $6,700, surpassing its $5,000 goal. "As you can expect, this tragedy has placed an emotional burden on us," the campaign reads. "His parents have not been to work since the accident, and we don't know when they will return. These donations will help out his family so much." Tyler's parents also chose to donate their son's organs, which they were told would help "hundreds of people," according to the GoFundMe campaign. "There are not enough words to express our thanks for all the kind words and prayers we have received," organizers wrote. Tyler is survived by parents Kevin and Tracey Glowacki and John and Mary Eberly, as well as siblings Olivia and Gavin Glowacki and Henry Eberly. Editor's note: An earlier version of this article listed Tyler's last name as Glowacki. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, his last name is Eberly.
