Description

CONCORD, NH — A Webster town official has been fined and stepped down from his office after the discovery of an illegal land deal from 2019. Back in October 2019, Bruce Johnson, 64, the town treasurer at the time, purchased two lots from the town. He purchased the lots "by a means other than open competitive bidding," Merrimack County Attorney Paul Halvorsen said. "State law prohibits a person holding a public office from purchasing real estate valued in excess of $200 from the political subdivision at which he or she is employed except by open competitive bidding," Halvorsen said. Johnson pleaded no contest in Franklin District Court to a single count of public officials barred from certain private dealings on Monday. He was fined $1,200 and stepped down from the position. Johnson was also a former selectman in town and a local author. Got a news tip? Send it to [email protected]. View videos on Tony Schinella's YouTube.com channel or Rumble.com channel.
