CONCORD, NH — Gov. Chris Sununu and others are in Kentucky inspecting that state's response to the coronavirus pandemic where new cases are overwhelming some hospitals. Sununu met with Gov. Andy Beshear on Monday to speak about how the state is handling its surge of new cases and also toured the Frankfort Regional Medical Center and University of Louisville Hospital. "Like New Hampshire, Kentucky is a rural state with small cities," the governor said. "Today, I joined NH state officials in visiting Kentucky to help inform our decision making in the weeks and months ahead to see how they are handling their COVID surge, how hospitals are managing through this crisis, and to hear what tools they have found to be effective in battling this most recent wave virus." Sununu was joined by Lori Shibinette, the commissioner of the Department of Health and Human Services, Jonathan Ballard, the CMO of NH Department of Health and Human Services; David Mikolaities, the adjutant general of the New Hampshire National Guard; Jayne Millerick, Sununu's chief of staff, inventor Dean Kamen of DEKA Research & Development; Michelle McEwen, the CEO of the Speare Memorial Hospital; and Marc Grossman, the ER medical director of Portsmouth Regional Hospital. Sununu's press office said the trip was "focused solely on the medical care of COVID and therefore did not notify nor will meet with anyone in Kentucky's Congressional Delegation during the visit." Not long after the announcement that he was out of state, the New Hampshire Democratic Party attacked the governor for going to the state of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. They also said Sununu owed the state an explanation on who asked him to go to Kentucky and when — since there was only a notice about the trip sent after info was leaked. They also want to know who paid for the trip, his arrival and departure times, how long he will be there, and what meetings, if any were canceled. "Both Memorial Hospital in Conway and Dartmouth-Hitchcock have announced that they are once again taking emergency measures because of the surge in COVID cases," Ray Buckley, the chairman of the party, said. "Why isn't Chris Sununu visiting them? Or visiting Vermont and Maine, both rural states that have surpassed New Hampshire in vaccinating their citizens, reducing the risk of COVID surges? Sununu needs to answer serious questions about why he is ditching New Hampshire to travel to Mitch McConnell's home state." Here is a roundup of everything else going on in New Hampshire right now. Business Leaders Say No To PRO Act Several New Hampshire business leaders in Concord on Monday called on the state's federal representatives to reject the Protecting the Right to Organize Act. The Associated Builders and Contractors of NH/VT, Business and Industry Association of New Hampshire, New Hampshire Grocers Association, NFIB NH, and NH Retailers Association believed the act will cause damage to the economy by forcing employers to hand over private info to union organizers and potentially subject employees to unwanted harassment at their homes. Hollie Noveletsky, pictured, the CEO of Novel Iron Works in Greenland, said her business has been successful for generations in business due to the commitment and resilience of her employees. "After COVID-19 and now out of control inflation, the 'PRO Act' would have the federal government dramatically interfere in how we operate — this would only hurt, not help Granite State workers and families," she said. Hollie Noveletsky along with David Juvet of the BIA, Josh Reap of ABC NH/VT, John Dumais of the NH Grocers, Howard Ray of Lyndeborugh, Entrepreneur Alex Talcott.
