District 99 To Debut School Renovations With Open Houses

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Community High School District 99 will host two upcoming open houses to show off the final results of its ongoing renovations to Downers Grove North and South High Schools. The September open houses come three years after community members voted to support the district's $136.6 million master facilities plan to renovate and update both schools. Downers Grove South High School Open House Sept. 11 On Sept. 11, a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. in the learning commons at Downers Grove South High School, 1436 Norfolk. St. From 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents can stop by for self-guided tours during the school's community open house. Community members who attend the open house should meet at the high school's main entrance. Downers Grove North High School Open House Sept. 25 Downers Grove North High School will host its community open house Sept. 25. Community members are invited to come to the high school's Main Street entrance, and then head to the learning commons for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. From 9:30 a.m to 2 p.m., residents can drop in for self-guided tours of the newly renovated facilities. Renovations to Downers North and South kicked off in Aug. 2018, when the schools were updated with air conditioning. On Aug. 18, 2021, district students resumed classes and were greeted with spacious learning commons areas, new classroom additions and updates to security and accessibility throughout the buildings. "Our students have been stunned by the scope and impact of the facility renovations, and it has been rewarding to witness their positive reactions to their new learning environment," District 99 Superintendent Dr. Hank Thiele said in a news release. Thiele continued, "We thank the community for its support in reinvesting in our schools, as we know the changes will have a lasting impact on our students."
