Good morning Raleigh, it's International Overdose Awareness Day, Today I have a round up of news including a bomb threat on campus, missing persons, incentive to adopt a pet, and a call to support healthcare workers in any way you can. Check out all that, events, and more below. Today's weather, 8/31: Humid and mostly cloudy throughout the day. High: 92 Low: 75. Here are the top stories in Raleigh today: A residence hall at NC State University had to be evacuated for approximately 5 hours in response to a bomb threat investigation. The Watauga Residence Hall was cleared until late Sunday night. The University did not reveal the cause of the investigation and did not issue a Wolf Alert to students regarding the concern until 6:50 pm. Police did not find any validity and one report said authorities believe it was a hoax. (CBS17) In spite of the threat, ADT recently ranked NCSU as #4 in the state among safest universities. (ADT)Two people believing to be suffering from some form of cognitive impairment have gone missing in Wake County. The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons has issued a Silver Alert for both individuals. Octavius Dante Davis was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt, black shorts with a green trim, and white shoes with a red decal at an apartment complex in East Raleigh. Kewanna Marie Salters was last seen wearing a black head scarf, a grey shirt, and black leggings in Cary. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police Department. (WRAL, WRAL)If you have still been on the fence about getting your vaccine, today is the last day you can receive the $100 cash card incentive. The state upped the incentive on August 4th in order to persuade more people to get vaccinated. You can find locations that still have $100 cards available on the NCDHHS website. You can also receive a $25 card by driving someone to an appointment. (FOX8)Wake County SPCA is kicking off 'Clear the Shelters' with a week-long adoption special. Until September 5th, the shelter will offer 50% off of all adoptions including spay/neuter, a microchip, vaccines and deworming. Right now, North Carolina shelters are overcrowded and the SPCA hopes to clear space in order to be able to take in more pets. The SPCA does not euthanize animals and has a gallery of adoptable pets on its website. (WRAL)Doctors in the Triangle are pleading with the community to do its part to stop the spread of COVID-19 and support healthcare workers. Hospitals are filling with record numbers of coronavirus patients, and staff members are nearing their breaking point. David Kirk of WakeMed's COVID-19 ICU expressed the toll that they face seeing young parents suffering from COVID-19. WakeMed currently has more patients with COVID-19 in intensive care and on ventilators than it did at any other point in the pandemic.
