ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — There was a celebration for a mother, who finally got to take her son home, 110 days after giving birth.
Zion Oliver Moleon was a patient in Catholic Health's Mercy Hospital neo-natal unit since May 12. He was born at 28 weeks and weighed just 1 lb. 12 oz.
Corine Moleon and her husband, from Uniondale, brought their son home on Monday. He weighs 8 lbs. 12 oz.
Their baby was born early because he was not growing in-utero, forcing an emergency C-section for Corine.
"Zion was born with some immaturity leading to apnea, had a slow heart rate and low oxygen. Today, Zion is on track to live a happy and healthy life," Dr. Swarna Devarajan, director of the Level III NICU at Mercy, said. "We will definitely miss Zion and his mom, who became part of our NICU family."
The hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unite is a 15-bed Level III unit.
