Can We Educate People Out of Conspiracy Theories? David Pakman Snow --Caller asks how to deprogram people from believing wacky conspiracy theories Leave a Voicemail Line: (219)-2DAVIDP--- We're at the point where people consider facts a political attack A further problem with Texas is their "textbooks" are used in many other states so their intentional ignorance isn't limited by it's borders. "It's easier to fool people, than to convince them that they have been fooled." -MT Can we educate people out of conspiracy theories? Short answer: NO. Long answer: Possibly after generations of properly educated citizens. I've been saying for 30 years to teach philosophy in high school so kids learn how to think. People are finally talking about it. Sir, that was a perfect call...from the standpoint of strength. "I want to teach my kids right now how to be better than this." I applaud this gentleman. "The Demon Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark" by Carl Sagan should be required reading to all children (and parents) as a basic tool for critical thinking. As everything Sagan wrote, it is very accessible, enlightening, and compelling. To the guy who invented the number zero: "Thanks for nothing". As they say, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make a theorist think!" The saying is something close to that "My body, my choice" ends where my immune system begins. It's easy to explain the obvious benefits of masks to young children of average intelligence. It is impossible to get these seemingly adults to grasp it. You right to make decisions for your child ends where your decisions infringe on my right to protect my child's life and health. Schools are obligated to keep the children in their care safe while they are on school grounds. DiSantis tried hard to force schools to play Russian roulette with the lives and health of their staff and students. Only the most ardent TrumpubliQan Cult members support the pro child endangerment policies he is pushing in order to benefit(!) his political career. "it is impossible to show a man something his paycheck depends on him not seeing" (I don't know who gets the credit for this one) Devoting ones life to a paycheck seems folly to me. Have you any higher ideals? did you need me to explain that quote to you? it’s a great quote, I think it’s a paraphrase of something Upton Sinclair said, although he might not have been the first. Its less about pay and more about social status. You will never be allowed into the upper echelon of society if you demean capitalism. This is a great quote, I've never heard it before. Thanks for sharing. yeah, I commonly see it (or use it) as a response to trolls insisting someone hasn't shown them evidence their lies are wrong. to make a hollow laughing sound. You will never be allowed to have a job at all if you demand capitalism openly. The reason why it's nearly impossible to break a conspiracy theorist of their habit is due to a thing known as confirmation bias. Exactly. "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” - Upton Sinclair. I usually use something close to the original, but 'see' seems even more appropriate here. Ah the appeal "secret knowledge" has on the simple minded. They want so badly to seem smart with their secret knowledge, but just look so much worse. This is part of my belief about the conspiracy idiots, too. Really, these people live pitiful lives, deep down they know they are pathetic and poor. Having "secret knowledge" is one of the only things they can hold on to that makes them feel like they are in control. They are excited to be let in on the secret like it gives them access to a new social class. You're right though, it really just makes them worse off. so much hate, but so much truth yes I agree. I constantly get told by people commenting on here that I couldn’t possibly know the truth because I’m not privy to the same knowledge they are but they provide no proof just act very smug. @Al GarL Of course I hate them, they're members of a homicidal cult. Their beliefs are killing people. The most important knowledge that all of you need isn't secret. Watch the 1942 USDA film, Hemp For Victory. I'd post the official US National Archives link to the video, but it will get deleted as "spam". There's no hope on this planet when world-changing factual information is deleted as "spam" yet people can read all about how Chinese Democratic Zionist Italian space lasers from Venezuela hack our elections. A mandatory class on the philosophical foundations of the USA would be helpful. As the USA is one of the few nations on earth that was founded on philosophy this heritage needs to be treasured. The republicans have cut education for years starting with Reagan down. I think the idea is to keep everyone ignorant and they'd be easy to control. The foolish part is that they think they can control. A whole group of people constantly voting against their own interest? I'd say they keep succeeding I find it interesting and scary how both "sides" are using the same "control" argument to back their claims. Reminds me of the CSN song lyrics, "Nobody's right when everybody's wrong". Everyone's been pushed into this destructive team mentality. So much wasted time and energy on things that are hypothetical. Divide and conquer. Question is who is doing the dividing and what is the ultimate purpose of the control? No working together or compromise is possible anymore. It's my way or the highway for BOTH sides. Compromise and cooperation is seen as a weakness. @Audio Artisan Americans have been voting against their own interests for 60 odd years. Yes, it is working. Considering the fact that Charles Manson's brainwashed cult followers stayed loyal to him years after his death these types of people would need years of serious de-programming just to get back up to zero before moving up into sanity and reason. One of them still has no regrets. To be fair he did just die four years ago. more than your location data when your click " I agree and accept the terms to use this App." You just agreed to give them your deepest thoughts, strongest passions and interest, everything you hate and fear. 5k data points = a psychological profile the envy of any Psychologist, Psychiatrist or KBG agent, used to manipulate behavior, perception, even subconscious programming. Cults use to entice susceptible personalities to a conference or meeting. Now they have A.I. mentalist like technology that can target millions with unimaginable effectiveness. " Save the Children" and " Jesus is Lord " can become believers in reptilian child blood drinking Democrat cabals." Back the Blue " can become militants supporting White Supremacist that have infiltrated Law Enforcement." If you can make people believe absurdities you can get them to commit atrocities "- Voltaire This is not cognitive dissonance or ignorance, it is a technological PSYOPS attack. Everyone Who has Coronavirus should go to Mar-a-Lago and Ask Trump for Help and This all stems from religion. When a child is taught to believe religious text and teachings over science and reality, it's a life long slide which allows them to fall into all kinds of conspiracies. They seem to have 2 choices, reality or religion, and conspiracies don't align with reality. You have to get religion totally out of schools. Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately I can only like this comment once. Religion is the mother ship of conspiracy theories.
