Description

We are writing to invite you to our event, STEM Story Live!. STEM Story Live! will take place on Saturday, September 18th from 12:00 noon to 4:30 pm at the Jean and Paul Amos Auditorium on the Pensacola State College Campus attached to WSRE-TV. STEM Story Live! will bring STEM professional women in to speak and interact with at least forty STEM-interested girls and their parents. The students will discuss their STEM career options with the presenters and we are inviting you and your team to give advice and encouragement to the parents. Why are we organizing STEM Story Live! ? Between the ages of 12 and 15 girls lose confidence in their skills in science and math, even though they are often better in those fields than boys. The result is fewer than 17% of young women are choosing STEM majors and only 12% of adult women are in STEM careers. Studies show that simply exposing girls to professional women in STEM careers makes a difference. Literally it is only when we see it is when we can be it. By introducing girls to impressive women making a difference in the world in part because of their love for science, technology, engineering, and math, we empower these girls to imagine what their lives will be like if they pursue their passions. We are excited to have you at our event and very thankful for the donation of a Family Experience package. My understanding is that you will create a certificate and draw names at the event. We will give away the prize at the end of the event. Your encouragement and knowledge will help the young women of our community understand what STEM careers are about and what their work lives will be like if they choose STEM.
