Want to buy/adopt young dog or puppy

I am desperately searching to adopt or buy a young dog or puppy. I can not afford to spend a lot, We are hoping & praying to come across anyone with a litter that was unexpected, or is willing to keep the price at like $300 or less. I am looking for a small dog, or small, medium size, preferably a puppy but would very much consider 1 - year to 18mts old. If anyone can help please let me know, whatever dog we are blessed to find will be used as a therapy dog and a best friend for my son who's 4 and has MS. Thank you for any and all help!
