Description

Ageism is Alive and Unwell in the Workplace Have you ever been pushed out of a job because of your age? Have you been left out of meetings or passed up for promotions? Or maybe you’ve been overlooked for challenging assignments. These can all be signs of age discrimination. In 1967, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) was passed to prevent employers from discriminating against employees based on their age. Regardless, ageism still seems to be “alive and unwell” in the workplace. An AARP survey reported 78% of older workers saw or experienced age discrimination in the workplace in 2020; in 2018, 61% did. But ageism is not just experienced by “seasoned” professionals. It can be directed at younger people as well. Join us for the next KC-IABC Coffee Chats for a conversation with colleagues about this important topic. Bring your own stories to share, or suggestions for ways to prevent or combat it. We’ll be meeting in person again for this chat.
