Determine how to best fill in mastery gaps with students who are performing below grade level!
Every year, we have students in our classroom that come to us performing under the grade level mastery level. When I taught 5th grade, I routinely had students reading or working on math at a 1st/2nd grade level.
This can be very frustrating for both the teacher and the student. Asking the student to keep up with a grade level lesson is futile-they do not have the previous skills necessary to succeed. But what skills are they missing? How do we know what to 'backfill' so they can catch up?
In this workshop, we'll 'stack the standards'. You'll be able to visualize exactly what standards lead to the next, kinder through 6th grade, in all subject areas. We will brainstorm ways to provide intervention materials and create centers for students that match the level they are on, so they can achieve success and mastery this year.
This will be an introduction to a year-long focus on how to differentiate for students based on their current level based on what our data is telling us and the growth we want to achieve.
Enjoy food, fun and fellowship as you destress in this area! The event will go until 5pm, but you can leave whenever you'd like. We can continue the next week if we need more time!
