MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A 67-year-old corrections deputy died from COVID-19 after being hospitalized for nearly two weeks, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Deputy Douglas Clark joined MCSO in February 2008. He's served in the agency's corrections bureau for 13 years, most recently overseeing inmate work projects in Manatee County Jail's Road Gang Unit. Clark was known for his positive attitude and being a hard worker, MCSO said. "I am deeply saddened by the loss of Deputy Clark," Sheriff Rick Wells said. "I ask that you please keep his family, friends and the entire MCSO family in your thoughts and prayers." A Line of Duty funeral service with full law enforcement honors will be held next week.
