Press release from the Sedgwick County Kansas Sheriff's Office: August 29, 2021 MEDIA RELEASE                       FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DATE:                                         AUGUST 29, 2021 AGENCY:                                    SEDGWICK COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE LOCATION:                                 WICHITA/SEDGWICK COUNTY, KANSAS TELEPHONE:                             (316) 660-3880 CONTACT:                                  LIEUTENANT BENJAMIN BLICK        On August 28, 2021, at approximately 6:37 PM, deputies were requested to assist the Kansas Highway Patrol with a road rage incident resulting in a shooting in the southbound lanes of the Kansas Turnpike (I-35) near mile marker 36. When deputies arrived they found Jerry J. Gehlen (34) suffering from a gunshot wound. Gehlen was transported by EMS to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.   Involved parties and witnesses were transported to Sheriff Investigations, interviewed, and released.
