By John Gibson, WNIN Aug. 28, 2021 COVID-19 infections and vaccinations continue to climb in Vanderburgh County. The Indiana Department of Health counted 159 new COVID cases in the county, raising the local pandemic total above 26,500. New full vaccinations outnumbered infections, with 207 on the Thursday dashboard. More encouraging data: no new COVID-related deaths were added in Vanderburgh, Warrick, Gibson, Posey, Pike, Dubois, or Spencer counties. But seven-day positivity rates remained high -- at about 29 percent in Vanderburgh County. The number of hospitalized COVID patients in the 12-county region of southwest Indiana stood at 244. Across Indiana, a dozen more virus-related deaths were added and for a second straight day, new infections topped 5,000. The statewide seven-day positivity rate among individuals stood at 18 percent.
