Description
CONCORD, NH — Some of the city's firefighters took a break from crisscrossing Concord on ambulance runs as well as dousing fires at homeless camps to host a pig roast on Friday.
Justin Kantar, the president of the Professional Firefighters of Concord, Local 1045, said it was the first time the firefighters hosted a pig roast and he hoped to make it an annual event. They listened to music, enjoyed spirits and company, raised some funds for charity, and schmoozed with neighborhood folk, politicians, and others.
"This is an event basically geared toward comradery and to bring us together as a local," he said, "and raised money, which helps support us giving back to the community."
Kantar said the last year and a half had been "an interesting year, to say the least." He said the department could perform 10,000 calls this year — "the busiest we have ever been."
