JOLIET, IL — A 25-year-old Joliet man who lives in the 300 block of North Broadway Street is now in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say he injured his 3-month-old daughter because she was crying on Thursday morning. Tavon White was arrested by Joliet police on charges of aggravated battery and domestic battery, Joliet police announced. Officers responded to White's residence on Broadway Street around 9 a.m. on Thursday for a domestic disturbance. "Officers determined that a three-month-old female had been struck by White, her father," Sgt. Dwayne English indicated. "Further investigation indicated that the child was left in White's care while the child's mother left to go shopping. Upon return of the child's mother, she noticed that her daughter's eyes appeared swollen." When the girl's mother asked White about the baby's injuries, "White then threw milk at the adult female," police reports show. The woman grabbed her child and fled the residence, calling 911. "Officers contacted White at the residence who indicated that he had struck the baby due to her crying. White was placed into custody without incident," police said. The baby was taken to St. Joe's hospital by Joliet Fire Department ambulance crews to have her injuries examined by medical staff, according to police. Will County Jail records indicate that bail for White has been set at $10,000. He remained in custody on Sunday night, unable to post bond.
