JOLIET, IL — A 27-year-old woman from Lockport was arrested by Joliet police on Thursday morning on charges of possessing controlled substances with intent to deliver. The incident that led to the arrest of Francesca King happened around 11:40 a.m. in downtown Joliet near West Jefferson and North Ottawa Streets, according to Joliet police.
Police were notified of a disturbance taking place.
"Officers determined that King was involved in a verbal altercation with other individuals in the area," Joliet police announced. "Officers then observed that King was holding a clear plastic bag in her hand as she walked away from them. King then tossed the bag across the street."
Joliet police said that officers caught up with King and determined that the plastic bag contained two small bags of crack cocaine.
Officers recovered the crack cocaine and placed King into custody without incident, police said.
Bail for the Lockport woman who lives in the 700 block of South Jefferson Street was set at $5,000. She was released from custody after posting 10 percent on Friday night, jail records indicate.
