Press release from the City of Champaign: August 28, 2021 On August 28, 2021, at approximately 4:44 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the area of N Market Street and E Eureka Street for the report of shots fired. Soon thereafter, additional officers responded to a local hospital after being notified a 15-year-old male arrived by personal transport with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg. On August 28, 2021, at approximately 4:44 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the area of N Market Street and E Eureka Street for the report of shots fired. Soon thereafter, additional officers responded to a local hospital after being notified a 15-year-old male arrived by personal transport with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg. The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was a passenger inside a car when another vehicle drove up and pulled alongside, fired, and drove away. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
