Columbia Daily Spectator BY MILES SCHACHNER AND REBECCA WACHEN AUGUST 27, 2021 Located in the northwest corner of campus, Dodge Fitness Center is the hub of physical education and recreational fitness on Columbia's grounds. Students can walk past Havemeyer Hall and down a set of stairs that will lead them to the gym, which is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends. Columbia and Barnard students on the Morningside campus have access to the facilities at Dodge with their ID. They may also purchase a plan for the fall semester that grants them access to the gym's lockers and towel supply. While Dodge has not yet updated its COVID-19 notice for the fall semester, several safety policies will carry over from the summer semesters, such as wearing face masks and having a green pass from the ReopenCU app. Upon entering Dodge, students have a wealth of exercise facilities to choose from: There is a three-tiered gym, a pool on the first floor, squash courts on the third floor, and much more. Those who would like to exercise alongside their peers can participate in the gym's group fitness opportunities. Swimming, cycling, yoga, and sailing are just a handful of the many physical education classes offered at Dodge. These courses will not only get you in shape but can also satisfy a Core requirement! As classes resume in person this fall, Dodge will begin offering free, remote fitness classes to the Columbia community in early September. Students can easily register for these classes via Dodge's website and take them from the comfort of their dorm room. Fitness courses aside, those who hope to let their competitive side shine through can also take advantage of the many club and intramural sports at Columbia. With 32 club sports offered, students have the opportunity to continue playing a sport they played in high school or even take on an entirely new sport like rock climbing or ballroom dancing. Students just looking to participate in athletics in a fun, low-stakes environment can join intramural sports by registering through Dodge's website. Whether you plan on working out every day or once a month, Dodge will meet all your fitness needs. Make sure to stop by and take advantage of the resources available to you!
