Here's How To Root For The Columbia Athletes Who Will Resume Competing This Fall

Columbia Daily Spectator BY MATTHEW KIM AND ALEX KWOK AUGUST 27, 2021 Columbia sports will finally resume competition after a pause of nearly 18 months. With the kickoff of fall sports, students, alumni, and parents can root for the Lions both online and in person. Here's how you can catch the action this upcoming season. All participants and spectators will be subject to the University's COVID-19 guidelines. One such guideline is abiding by an indoor mask requirement as Columbia is currently at the low risk (yellow) level. This COVID-19 risk level is determined by the University and will be monitored throughout the semester. Football Columbia football fans can watch all home and Ivy League games through ESPN+. A subscription can be purchased for $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year. Alternatively, you can opt for a bundle that comes with Hulu and Disney+ for $13.99 per month. Home games will be held at Baker Athletics Complex at 533 W. 218th St. Fans can reach Baker by taking the 1 train to 215th Street or the A train to 207th Street. Admission is free for Columbia and Barnard students with a valid University ID, and non-students can buy season and single-game tickets here. The football team will open up its season Saturday, Sept. 18 at home against Marist College. Soccer All men's soccer home and Ivy League games will be streamed through ESPN+. All women's soccer home and Ivy League games will also be available on ESPN+, with the exception of the season-opener against St. John's, which can be viewed on ESPN3. The Lions' home games will be held at Baker. Admission is completely free of charge, and tickets don't need to be reserved ahead of time. The men's team will have its season-opener at home Friday, Sept. 3 against George Washington University, while the women's team will begin competition Friday, Aug. 27 with an away game at St. John's University. Field Hockey Almost all field hockey home and Ivy League games will be streamed on ESPN+. The field hockey team will host its opponents at Baker. Admission is free of charge to all, and tickets do not need to be reserved ahead of time. The Lions will open their season Friday, Sept. 3 at home against Davidson College. Volleyball All volleyball home and Ivy League games will be streamed on ESPN+. The volleyball team will defend its turf at Schiller Court in Levien Gymnasium at 3030 Broadway. Admission is free of charge to all, and tickets do not need to be reserved ahead of time. But the Light Blue will begin its season with a tournament at West Point Academy on Friday, Sept. 3 against High Point University. Fans can cheer the team on at home as early as Sept. 10, when the team plays its first home game against St. Francis College Brooklyn in the Big Apple Tournament. Cross Country Lion harriers will be back to the races with their season-opener at the Stony Brook Invite on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. The Lions are set to compete in four races before the Metropolitan Cross Country Championships at the Bronx's Van Cortlandt Park on Friday, Oct. 8 at 10:30 a.m. Students and alumni who want to cheer the runners on earlier, however, can attend the Iona Meet of Champions, which is also at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday, Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. Senior staff writer Matt Kim can be contacted at [email protected].
