DRUMMER AVAILABLE. I’ve decided to run this CL post about what I’m looking to do so that other musicians who may be looking for something similar can reach out. I know what I'm after is very particular, but I don't think it's impossible, and I'd rather look for what I want and not find it than to be involved in something that makes me unhappy. This CL post might look lengthy, but it’s only 9 key points. It should give you a very clear idea of what I’m looking to do, how I’d like to do it, what I can bring to the table, etc. If you read this and it seems like what you’re after as well, feel free to reach out to me. Or maybe you already have what I’ve described and need a Drummer, just let me know. If you read it and have any questions, or maybe just have a better way of going about something I touched on, please - reach out to me. I’m always willing to learn more and appreciate your taking the time to read this post. OBJECTIVE: To find other local musicians that understand the demands of having full-time jobs and families, but are also interested in writing, recording, promoting and performing both original and non-original rock-based music, on a professional level. 1) MY GEAR: I have the gear I need to do my job as a Drummer (too much gear, really). 2) EXPERIENCE: I have both live performance and recording experience (20-25 years). 3) TRANSPORTATION: I have reliable transportation (including a cargo van). 4) I don’t do any drugs (and I only drink like 5 times a year – like holidays). 5) I live in Washington PA & I’d prefer to work as close to home as possible. • I’d like to expand on this. I will 100% travel for the right project. I do have a small room that can be used for writing, but not so much for live-show rehearsals (those are two different animals). I’m not opposed to working at your place either, assuming it’s a better fit than my place. But if it’s really no different than what I offer, as a gentleman, please be understanding the following: • A 6-liter V8 drinks gas. • As a Drummer, if I were to come to your place 2x a week, I’d have to take apart, load, unload, build, take apart, load again, unload, and then build an entire drum kit each time I come there/go home, and I’m 110% no one will help me with any of that. That said, it’d be great if you’d just bring your guitar here during the writing process. As I said before, live-show rehearsals are a whole different animal, and I’m well aware that process will require a bigger venue, more equipment, etc. 6) My approach to making music is obviously from that of a musician, but also from a business POV. It takes money to run a business, but it also takes money to make money, so I’m willing to contribute financially to any project I believe in, and hope to be involved in an equal-split operation. I'm a member of a PRO (BMI) and I assume you are as well. • Based on my research/experience, if you want real results, you’re probably looking at spending a a good amount of money before it’s all done. A producer, an engineer, mastering, graphic design, marketing, it all costs money. Sure, your brother’s college roommate has Pro-Tools, but I’m talking about an industry-standard, radio ready product made by people with decades of experience who have the contacts we don’t, who can help us to hit the ground running. You’re not just paying for the product, you’re also paying for the experience of the producers, engineers, etc. 7) As far as promoting that recording with live-performances goes, I believe your live show should sound just as clean as your recording, but be incredibly entertaining as well. This requires a multitude of things if you ask me, but I’ll only touch on three of them; IEM’s, software, and the gear required to make you sound as good as your record. • IEM’s: As the Drummer, I’ll have to play to a click, I get it, have IEM's. You’ll also need IEM’s, and I’m not too worried about explaining this because anyone who’s ever used them understands why they’re so important. • SOFTWARE: Ableton Live (or something similar) to run the entire show, everything from start to finish. A redundant rig of 2 computers, so if one fails during a live show, another kicks in. Also requires a few racks of effects, etc. I have all the racks of gear, I have all the speakers that’ll be needed, mics, and I have IEM transmitters/receivers for 5 or 6 people, but you’ll need your own pair of IEM’s. I’ll have the computers and Ableton software when the time comes. • GEAR: Unless you want to pay an army, you’re going to need backing tracks to reproduce any radio-ready recording in a live situation. Hopefully you don’t, maybe a bare-bones record will be perfect, but I’m assuming a backing track or two will be useful. I can say this: From the Drummer’s POV, I hear percussion of some sort on almost every recording (a shaker, a tambourine, whatever) so right there is one track. People want to argue about it being “cheating”, I get it, but we aren’t talking about Vanilla Ice or Ashlee Simpson and how they totally cheated by not singing at all, we’re talking about complimentary tracks and that’s it. Every other act you play before or after will have backing tracks to some degree, believe me, and if they don’t, they won’t sound anywhere near as good as you do. Some will over-do it and it’ll look bad, but the real players will just use complimentary tracks, or they'll pay an army. 8) LINE-UP: In all my years of playing, studying or just simply being a fan of music, what I consider to be the best bands have almost always had certain instruments and certain amounts of those instruments on stage, so I have a general idea of what I'm after in regards to that. • Lead Vox/Rhythm Guitar • Bass Guitar/Back-up Vox • Rhythm Guitar/Back-up Vox • Drums (I can't sing, NGL) • Keyboard (in a perfect world) VOX: A wise man once told me “A band has a singer, a good band has 2 singers, but great bands have 3 or more singers that harmonize like The Beach Boys, The Temptations, etc.” • I’d like to have to have 3 voices at the front of the stage, making harmony VOX possible, and eliminating the need to run another backing-track for VOX. So far as I can tell, that would only make two or 3 backing-tracks necessary; percussion, sound effects from the records, and possibly keys/piano (if that were to be used at all, maybe it won't be). GUITARS: I’m really a big fan of the lead singer playing rhythm guitar. There’s nothing worse than having the bottom drop out of the song when the guitar player goes into his solo. 9) AUDIO: If you made it this far, you’re probably going to want to hear me play the drums. Below is a link you can follow to hear me play on a recording. It’s an older recording, but an accurate representation of what I’m able to do, nonetheless. Essentially, I want whatever group I play with to sound better than this. www.reverbnation.com/bomarkley Please respond with your own audio. Respectfully, I no longer do blind dates. Thank you, and good luck.
