Description

Four photographers and an 8ft sculpture of a man made out of cameras....and his dog. The show “Cameraman” features four photographers with four different approaches to capturing a moment in time. Motion picture camera operator Mitch Dubin tells a story within the four lines of the frame. Actor Ed Holmes seeks the surprise of mistakes. Photojournalist Maurice Ramirez documents a city during the pandemic. Artist Pons Maar’s collages combine abandoned places with a Hollywood of days gone by. “Cameraman” also features a sculptural collaboration between artists Ed Holmes and Marc Ribaud with sound design by Joe Paulino. Maria Chenut created Cameraman’s faithful companion, Cameradog from camera cases. Cameradog’s shutter sounds create a sonic atmosphere. The idea for this show began when Holmes and Ribaud decided to create a larger-than-life- size “Cameraman” using Holmes’ 45-year-old camera collection and Ribaud’s engineering genius. The hundreds of cameras date from the 1920’s to yesterday, from a 4×5 view camera to plastic toy cameras and everything in between. The artists responded to the unique beauty of each camera design. A red box camera becomes the heart, two 1940s film strip projectors become the eyes, and a series of instamatic cameras become the spine. Rhythmix is located at 2513 Blanding Ave. The gallery is open this Saturday and next from 1 to 4 p.m. Cameraman, above, and Cameradog, below, are ready to welcome you to the “Cameraman” exhibit at Rhythmix Cultural Works. ed holmes has been a bay area performer/teacher of physical comedy for 45 years. He has worked with the SF Mime Troupe (no, not THAT kind of mime), Antenna Theater, I Fratelli Bologna, Sf Opera, Oakland Symphony, ACT, and Rhythmix Cultural Works in Alameda. Ed, as Bishop Joey, has instigated the annual St Stupid's Day Parade since 1979 thru his church...the FIRST CHVRCH ofthe LAST LAVGH. You're already a member. Come see why.
