CLASS BY ASSOCIATION offers cocktail enthusiasts an opportunity to delve deeper and refine their cocktail knowledge. CLASS BY ASSOCIATION offers cocktail enthusiasts an opportunity to delve deeper and refine their knowledge of cocktails. Classes explore bar basics, tools and techniques as well as individual spirits, their history and use in classic and contemporary cocktails. The Association hosts the one-hour class every Friday & Saturday from 8pm - 9pm. All classes are $40 per person and include: • 1-hour PRIVATE cocktail class • Tasting of 3-4 craft cocktails • Social Hours 9-10:30pm with special cocktail pricing For optimized enjoyment, we limit classes to 22 seats. CLASS SCHEDULE AUGUST FRIDAY 8/6 -- TIKI The origins of these “Island” style cocktails may surprise you. Come for the fresh flavors, stay for the rum… lots and lots of rum. SATURDAY 8/7 -- FIRE Our most popular class, here we will show you the secrets of our famous Old Fashioned on fire, as well as other techniques to impress all your friends at your next party. We’ll bring the fire extinguishers. FRIDAY 8/13 -- BOURBON COCKTAILS We will explore the extensive world of bourbon cocktails -- indisputably our favorite spirit at The Association.. and you'll find out why during this class! SATURDAY 8/14 -- COCKTAILS ACROSS AMERICA This class will take us from New Orleans, to New York to California and everywhere in between. Come taste the history of the US's expansive cocktail culture. FRIDAY 8/20 -- MEZCAL A look at our neighbor to the south and their amazing, artisanal, magical spirit of Mezcal (the origins of tequila), and all its different varietals. SATURDAY 8/21 -- TEQUILA You've been drinking the wrong tequila, let us show you the way. Here we discuss the different aging processes and flavor profiles that makes this spirit one of the most popular in the world… and for good reason. FRIDAY 8/27 -- AROMATIC From the Manhattan to the Vieux Carré. The stirred and the strong. Let’s class up your cocktail game. SATURDAY 8/28 -- THE SOUR Don’t let the name fool you, these balanced, creamy, and fresh cocktails will have your palate screaming for more. FRIDAY 9/10 -- RUM Arguably the most diverse spirit in the world, here we will explore all the different types of rum around the world, and their use in the vastly different cocktails that benefit and bloom from their every spice and nuance. SATURDAY 9/11 -- PUNCHES Thought to be the precursor to the modern cocktail, these large format libations pay tribute to the old saying “if it ain't broke, don't fix it.” FRIDAY 9/17 -- FLIPS, FIZZES and SOURS Eggs aren't just for breakfast anymore…(Egg warning) SATURDAY 9/18 -- COCKTAILS AROUND THE WORLD Think of it like a really cool foreign exchange program. Here we explore some of the national cocktails and local libations from countries around the world. FRIDAY 9/24 -- SCOTCH COCKTAILS Your grandpa knew what he was doing. One of the oldest spirits on Earth, Scotches' different varieties and regions will bring power and balance to your cocktail game. SATURDAY 9/25 -- ORIGINS Where do cocktails come from? Who invented the cocktail? What was the first cocktail? You and us need to have a chat. Established in 2008 The Association, located in the historic Bank District in Downtown, LA, is a low-key, NYC-style lounge, offering classic cocktails in a warm and inviting ambiance.Shielded on the subterranean level of the Pacific Electric Lofts building, The Association's exterior is simply represented by its unique black door with a brass lion head knocker. It is dimly lit and strategically split in two sections--the bar and the lounge area--offering guests variety in space and atmosphere. The musical taste of the venue is considered eclectic, ranging from classic rock to disco, alternative, new age and loungeThe lounge is characterized by its intimate leather banquettes, mirrored light fixtures, brass ornaments and Vegas casino--style, regal carpets.The Association's cocktail menu, conceptualized by San Francisco based consultant Kent Howard and owner Ashley Joyce, consists of an impressive list of classic concoctions such as America's first-ever created cocktail, the "Sazerac".
