Childbirth Part 2: Beyond Birth is packed with info, tips, and tricks to help you have a smooth transition into postpartum and parenthood. **This will be an in-person class at our Overland Park birth center, in the community room.** Childbirth Education Part 2: Beyond Birth Women spend much of their pregnancies planning for their labor and birth. That is only the beginning. "Beyond Birth" will help prepare you for what happens after birth and initial recovery. Families are routinely discharged from the birth center within 4-8 hours following birth. Goals for this class include providing you with the confidence and skills necessary to care for yourself and your newborn at home. However, this class would be beneficial to families delivering in any setting and all families are welcome to enroll. We will emphasize ways to help mother recover from her pregnancy, bond with baby, and successfully establish breastfeeding. Topics Include; POSTPARTUM What to expect during the postpartum period (the weeks following birth)Comfort care tips during recoveryPostpartum mood disordersNEWBORN What to expect from your newbornTutorials on vital newborn care skills including diapering, bathing, calming, and swaddling.Newborn sleep patternsSafety tipsINTRO TO BREASTFEEDING Benefits to mother and babyHow partners can helpHow to get a good latch and why it's importantWhat to expect the first few daysFor more information about breastfeeding we recommend enrollment in our Breastfeeding Seminars, Part 1 and 2 (Complimentary for New Birth Company clients). Your partner/support person is also encouraged to attend. Price for class includes the cost of two people (please only register one participant, one support person is assumed). Prior registration for continuing education and additional fee required. Class Objectives: Each participant will verbalize normal postpartum appearance of the mother. Each participant will describe three symptoms of postpartum depression. Each participant will list newborn home safety recommendations. New Birth Company is approved as a provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. Our facility also provides clinic rooms for pregnancy visits and well woman care, as well as space for classes and community gatherings. We have two birth centers, located in Kansas City, Kansas and Overland Park, Kansas.
