Celebrate National Public Lands Day on Webb Peak Trail with American Conservation Experience and the USFS Safford District! 4 years after the Frye Fire burned much of Mt. Graham, it's time to re-open the trails! Join American Conservation Experience (ACE) and the USFS Safford District for a volunteer weekend in celebration of National Public Lands Day, Saturday and Sunday September 25-26 2021. We'll be working on Webb Peak Trail, a gorgeous multi-use trail that winds up between Aspens and granite boulders to the Webb Peak Fire Tower before descending to join with Ash Creek trail. Volunteers will be working a one-mile section from the Columbine Public Corrals Campground to the fire tower, clearing aspen and other plant growth to re-open the trail corridor and doing tread work to enhance sustainability. No trail maintenance experience is necessary! We have reserved camping for the weekend at the Columbine Corrals Campground, across the street from the Pinaleno Mountains Visitor Center. There's space for tents, vans, and small travel trailers. Columbine Corrals has drinking water and pit toilets available. Please note that there is no cell signal at camp. ACE and th USFS will provide all the tools needed, along with training and supervision for volunteers. Weekend schedule: Friday Afternoon/Evening: Volunteers arrive and set up campSaturday 9AM - 2PM: Trail Work on Webb Peak TrailSaturday 5:30PM: Volunteer Appreciation Dinner and USFS meet and greet (pending)Sunday 8AM - 1PM: Trail Work on Webb Peak TrailVolunteers need to bring: Camping gear for the weekend. Plan for the possibility of rain! Columbine Corrals CG has plenty of space for tents and vans/small travel trailers.Food/snacks.Work gloves.A bike helmet or hard hat if you don't want to wear a loaner.Closed-toe shoes or boots for trail work.A pack and bladder/water bottles. Min. 2 liter capacity is required.Anything else you need to be comfortable for a weekend on the mountain!
