Description

We are open to a foster to adopt set up for this dogs forever home. If you are interested, please mention it in your application so your interviewer can give you the info. Patty is a 7 year old female Morkie. She is currently about 25 lbs. She was adopted out as a young dog and then recently returned when her person moved out of the country. This good girl doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. With her love of nap time and snuggles, Patty is just the pup for a low energy person who wants a companion to keep them company and give them cuddles all day long. This good girl is possibly one of the sweetest dogs out there, and anyone would be lucky to have her. When Patty initially meets new people she tends to be quite scared and timid. In fact, she tried to keep away from her foster at first. But don’t worry! While she may be scared at first, she will come out of her shell if she is given time and space to adjust to her new surroundings. She does not respond well to being pushed into doing things she isn’t comfortable with yet. After about a week she has become much more comfortable in her foster home and she improves daily. She now LOVES her foster and often follows them around. As long as she has her people in sight she is usually very comfortable. She also loves to snuggle and will ask for bellyrubs! Too cute! If someone sits by her when she is sleeping she often will put her head on their lap or ask for snuggles by pushing their hand with her nose. It can’t get much better than that! In terms of her energy level, Patty is definitely a “lounge all day” type of dog. She likes short, quick walks where she can do her business and go home. In terms of her training, Patty has done very well. She walks well on her leash, and responds well to praise. Furthermore, she is crate trained and (almost completely) housetrained. She will go to the door if she needs to potty. She had a few accidents the first few days while she was getting used to her new setup but none since. Finally, she doesn’t have any destructive habits: no chewing, digging, and minimal barking. Patty has also established a daily routine with her foster. She goes for her first walk around 8:30 and has breakfast after. She then plays and has a treat at lunch. For the rest of the day, she will relax and then go for a walk around 6pm before her dinner. She goes for a final walk around 9:30 before going to bed. Over weekends she will go for an additional walk around 2pm. Patty does very well with other dogs. Not only has she lived with another dog her whole life, but she has been well behaved with the other dogs she has encountered on walks. While she likes to keep her distance and will back off if the other dog is getting too excited, she has a polite curiosity. She will likely have a “peaceful coexistence” type of relationship if her forever family has a current resident dog. Patty will do best in a lower energy environment where she is given plenty of space to open up on her own time. She would also love a home where “her person” is home more than not-- so folks who are out of the house all day for work may not be the best option unless she goes to work with them. However, more than anything else she just needs someone to give her all the love she needs and deserves. Patty is only an option for those who have had a dog previously. If there are children they need to be over the age of 8. For more information, please visit the DPS rescue website. http://dpsrescue.org/adopt/pet-detail/?id=16889375
