OCEANSIDE, CA — Crews were battling a wildfire, dubbed the Chaparral Fire, near Camp Pendleton and Murrieta on Saturday, authorities said. The blaze had burned at least 25 acres in the Cleveland National Forest. The fire was burning near the Santa Rosa Plateau, at the edge of the Cleveland National Forest in unincorporated Murrietta. The area is near the Tenaja Falls trailhead paved parking lot. "The #ChapparalFire is creating a large plume of smoke visible in our area. There is no fire threat to our district at this time," the North County Fire Protection District tweeted around 2 p.m. Ground and air crews were responding to the fire, which was reported at 12:38 p.m., according to Cal Fire and the Riverside County Fire Department. The North County Fire Protection District confirmed that the fire was not burning on the military base.
