To those here that think there isnt any censorship here at the Patch, this picture is the evidence of censorship. Those that proclaim that this is a privately owned company, therefore they can do whatever they want when it comes to who can and cannot post, youre a fool. This is a company who provides news for local communities like ours, and acts as a public square of sorts in the digial age much like Facebook and Twitter do. Just because the companies are not owned by the government does not give them permission to silence dissidents, delete accounts, or restrict comments on certain articles. Websites like this cannot simply take the constitution, that they certainly benifit from daily, and simply say that it doesn't apply here or on the internet, that is absurd and hypocritical at best. Just imagine for one second if the government tried to censor the writers on this site? Deleted their stories? They would be up in arms crying about their First Ammendment rights and how they are being censored. If you think this isnt a big problem that won't affect you, think again. If they silence one voice they will silence all sooner or late. Stop letting websites like the Patch censor you. Stop letting them abuse us and violate our civil rights. Our founding fathers couldn't have imagined the technology we have today, but I can be sure, the practices of these websites woild not be tolerated by them. These fact checkers and moderators claim that theyre fighting misinformation, and protecting others from verbal abuse, that couldn't be farther from the truth. Many of us are smart enough to come to our own conclusions based on evidence and past experience, it comes naturally to us humans. Ask yourself, why are they going to such great lengths to silence the voices of others that dont share the same opinions in the name of misinformation? One cannot simply expect someone who is judging what is real and what is fake, like Snopes and Media Matters, to do so in an unbiased manner. Stand up for your rights people, write and call your local politicians, your state and federal representatives, tell them to propose legislation to stop these websites from abusing the civil rights of Americans. Be persistent and be a thorn in their side. Email the Patch CEO, managers, tell them how you feel about being censored. Together we can do this and make the world a better place.
