Local Kids 'Shop With A Cop' For School Supplies

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Kind-hearted police officers and others came together this week to help kids get back to school prepared with supplies. On Thursday, members of the Southampton Town Police Department, the Southampton TownPolice Explorers, and Human Growth and Understanding Seminars, Inc., or HUGS, participated in a "Shop with a Cop" event sponsored by Walmart. The event, police said, was an "outstanding success," helping children from Southampton to purchase school supplies for the upcoming school year. The program was sponsored by the Riverhead Walmart; the Southampton Town Superior Officers Association and Southampton Town Policeman's Benevolent Association provided funds. "Thank you to the members of the Southampton Town Police Department who cooked dinner for the families, which all enjoyed prior to going shopping," police said.
