Our firm is currently seeking one highly motivated individual for a laboratory technician position at our Pleasantville, NY materials testing laboratory. The current position is part-time, but we anticipate making this a full-time position once we find someone who demonstrates that they can become a talented contributing member of the team. Though a degree or coursework in the sciences is not required, this may be a good position for someone with a background in civil engineering, geology, or related fields. The job responsibilities will include but are not limited to: - Preparation of material samples including concrete, brick, stone, etc. using saws, drills, grinders, crushers, etc. Requires fine hand-skills as well as light lifting. - Assisting in various mechanical or durability testing throughout the laboratory. This may include setting up absorption tests, strength tests, freeze-thaw cycling tests, etc. - General housekeeping of testing laboratory space. Please note that this is a highly manual job that requires someone with excellent hand skills and manual dexterity. If that is not obvious in your resume, please describe any relevant experience in your cover letter. Resumes without this information will not be considered. The position needs someone who has perfectionist tendencies and can show high attention to detail. At the same time, the technician must be able to balance this with effective time management and work under tight time constraints. The position does not require any prior experience but it does need someone who has good hand skills developed through other work or hobbies. For example, people who are talented at miniature model building, fine woodworking, or other refined hands-on work will be more successful. Please be prepared to describe any prior hand skills that may be applicable. The laboratory can be a fun and vibrant place to work though the pace is fast. You should be the type of person who enjoys the hustle of a dynamic work environment. Because of our talents, our laboratory has the opportunity to work on all types of important buildings, structures, and landmarks. Examples of previous projects include the Brooklyn Bridge, Plymouth Rock, Canadian Parliament, and historic forts from Maine to Florida.
