The American Institute for Economic Research cordially invites you to our Annual Meeting of Voting Members, featuring Steve Forbes. The American Institute for Economic Research will hold our Annual Meeting of Voting Members on October 15th through 17th, 2020. We have transformed our annual board and committee meetings into an unforgettable weekend to unite and celebrate the community of scholars, donors, business leaders, activists, and educators who make AIER so successful. This meeting is an exciting opportunity to learn about AIER's work and to connect with those who share your commitment to developing and promoting the ideas of pure freedom and private governance. Keynote Reception and Dinner Ticketholders are invited to join us for a special day of programming on Friday, October 15th. We'll begin with a special behind-the-scenes tour of our historic home, Stone House. You'll learn about the exciting history that sets this estate apart and the painstaking work our team has put in to restore it to the majesty of yesteryear. After the tour, you'll enjoy an elegant seated dinner prepared by our talented private chef, Peter DelGrande. After dinner, Forbes Editor-in-Chief Steve Forbes will address the audience. Friday's activities are only open to Keynote Reception and Dinner Ticketholders. Saturday's Annual Meeting sessions include committee meetings, review of reports, annual elections, and discussion of our programs, research, publications, and more. Saturday's meeting is closed to governance. Guests are welcome to stay for social lunch and dinner with governance and researchers on Saturday. This is a private event for our esteemed supporters. Since Mr. Forbes assumed the CEO position in 1990, Forbes has launched a variety of new publications and businesses including: ForbesLife, ForbesWoman, Forbes Asia, and Chinese, Croatian, Korean, Japanese, Russian, Arabic, Hebrew, Polish and Turkish editions of the magazine. Together, these publications reach a worldwide audience of more than five million readers. The company also publishes the Gilder Technology Report and a number of investment newsletters. In 1996 Forbes entered the new media arena with the launch of Forbes.com. Other Forbes Web sites are: Investopedia.com; RealClearPolitics.com; RealClearMarkets.com; RealClearSports.com; and the Forbes.com Business and Finance Blog Network. In total, these sites reach nearly 42 million business decision-makers each month. Mr. Forbes writes editorials for each issue of Forbes under the heading of “Fact and Comment.” A widely respected economic prognosticator, he is the only writer to have won the highly prestigious Crystal Owl Award four times. In both 1996 and 2000, Mr. Forbes campaigned vigorously for the Republican nomination for the Presidency. Key to his platform were a flat tax, medical savings accounts, a new Social Security system for working Americans, parental choice of schools for their children, term limits and a strong national defense. Mr. Forbes is the author of Flat Tax Revolution: Using a Postcard to Abolish the IRS (Regnery, 2005). He also wrote A New Birth of Freedom (Regnery, 1999), a book of bold ideas for the new millennium. In 1985, President Reagan named Mr. Forbes Chairman of the bi-partisan Board for International Broadcasting (BIB). In this position, he oversaw the operation of Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty. Broadcasting behind the Iron Curtain, Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty were praised by Poland’s Lech Walesa as being critical to the struggle against communism. Mr. Forbes was reappointed to his post by President George H. W. Bush and served until 1993. Steve Forbes was born on July 18, 1947, in Morristown, New Jersey. He graduated cum laude in 1966 from Brooks School in North Andover, Massachusetts. He received a B.A. in history from Princeton in 1970.
