Description
A concert featuring Camille Zamora, soprano, Monica Yunus, soprano, and Josephine Riggs, piano. “A singer blessed with intense communicative ability who blazes with passion” (Opera Magazine, UK), Camille Zamora balances a vibrant career of opera, recital, and concert performances. In collaboration with artists ranging from Yo-Yo Ma to Sting, Camille has garnered acclaim for her “dramatic and nuanced” (The New York Times) interpretations of repertoire ranging from Mozart to tango. She is known for her “dignity and glowing sound” (The New York Times) in “luminous, transcendently lyrical” performances (Opera News) that “combine gentility and emotional fire” (The Houston Chronicle). A graduate of The Juilliard School, Camille is the Co-Founder of Sing for Hope, a leading “arts peace corps” that creates programs – such as the Sing for Hope Pianos in public spaces from the Bronx to Beirut – that promote the mission of art for all. Equally at home in concert, recital or on the operatic stage, Monica Yunus has established herself as one of America's most sought-after sopranos. She has been called "especially winning" by The New York Times, and commended for her “voice that sparkles like the best of diamonds.” (Omaha World Herald) A principal artist of The Metropolitan Opera for over a decade, Ms. Yunus has performed on some of the world's greatest stages. Her concert and recital performances have taken her all over the world- in countries ranging from Spain, to Bangladesh, Guatemala and Lebanon and in performances with legendary singers such as Plácido Domingo, and José Carreras. A graduate of The Juilliard School, Ms. Yunus is the Co-Founder of Sing for Hope, a leading “arts peace corps” that creates programs – such as the Sing for Hope Pianos in public spaces from the Bronx to Beirut – that promote the mission of art for all. Reviewed as having “clockwork consistency”, Josephine Riggs is currently serving as the organist at Messiah United Methodist Church in Springfield, Virginia. Previously, she has held the position of music director for Act Two @ Levine Music, and has also been on staff at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. She works regularly with Wolf Trap Opera, Washington Concert Opera, and maintains an active coaching and performing schedule. Prior to moving to the area, Josephine was based in New York City. She has worked with New York City Opera, Florida Grand Opera, El Paso Opera, Chelsea Opera and American Repertory Theater. She has been on staff at various conservatories including Manhattan School of Music, Boston University, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and Santa Clara University. On behalf of the Grace Church Concert Series Committee and our generous volunteers, we look forward to seeing you this season! The Grace Church Concert Series is funded in part through the generosity of Mrs. Jacqueline Mars in memory of her mother, Mrs. Forrest Mars, who was devoted to music and loved Grace Church. Sincerely, Jason Farris, artistic director, Lena Scott Lundh, chair emeritus & Gertraud Hechl, chairs emeritus. Committee Members: Enid Adams, Landon Butler, Deborah Dempsey, Kenneth Garrett, Robin Pegler, Ellen Soyars, Holli Thompson, Nancy West, and Dana Westring.
