Description

Enjoy an afternoon with jazz/pop supergroup Jenna & the Charmers! Fostering a close rapport for the past four years, Jenna & the Charmers has evolved from a collection of close musical colleagues into a refined and sophisticated musical tour-de-force. The jazz/pop supergroup features vocalist Jenna Mammina (voted best jazz/pop crossover artist by Jazziz Magazine three years in a row), drummer Jeremy Steinkoler (“A very swinging drummer who’s mastered the art of coordinated independence” - East Bay Express), guitarist Steve Bissinger (Mr. Lonesome & the Bluebelles) and virtuoso bassist Paul Eastburn. Featuring Jenna’s own original songs as well as a cultivated selection of pop and rock songs from the past 40 years, the group navigates its way through an incredibly wide dynamic range, from their trance-like rendition of the Beatles “Across the Universe” to their driving, groovy version of Squeeze’s “Tempted.” Captivating audiences with intimacy and charm, the band leaves an impression that won’t soon be forgotten. “A beautifully calibrated working ensemble” — Andy Gilbert, Berkeleyside.com "Deeply impressed by the immediacy, the presence and the intimacy of the new recording [Everyone I Love is Here] and the performances contained within. There is a group rapport that comes shining though, and Jenna inhabits the songs and makes them her stories.” — Jim Bennett A SPECIAL NOTE FROM THE BACK ROOM Thank you for your interest in this show. To stay in the loop about our future shows, please join our mailing list here. Masks will be required (except for singers on stage) and seats will be properly distanced. Audience members are welcome to un-distance the seats of those with whom you would otherwise be mask-less with - but you must keep your masks on. The seats will be standard folding chairs - no comfy couches this time, but they will be comfortably shaded. Only 60 tickets will be sold, and we expect all or most of them to be bought in advance. (Reimbursement for cancellation is guaranteed with 24-hour notice, and rain may cause a cancellation from our end).  Please keep in mind that afternoons can be chillier than expected, especially when sitting still, so bring an extra layer! Cups of water will be available, but it might be a good idea to bring your own drinks/snacks.  THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING LIVE MUSIC! Tickets are $20. Children under 12 are free. We strongly encourage you to purchase your tickets in advance, which are available at the link below, or you may pay at the door the day of the show. Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash only at the door (ATMs are nearby). The Back Room is an all-ages, BYOB (for those 21+) space, dedicated to (mostly) acoustic music of all kinds. You are welcome to bring your own adult beverage with no additional corkage fee. If you need more information or have any questions, please call us: #510-381-1997. Thank you for your support! Local musician Sam Rudin recently opened a new music venue in downtown Berkeley called The Back Room, which honors his vision to recreate the cozy ambience of the original Freight & Salvage. Rudin describes his new venture as a small space (100 people max), with great acoustics and comfortable seating, that showcases the musicians with respect and appreciation.
