Part-time Augusta Construction Supt/Carpenter/Handyman
Jobs
Augusta GA
Description
I am in need of a part-time experienced working commercial construction superintendent, carpenter or handyman. This person could be "retired", in-between jobs or currently employed. Future work will vary based on the number of service calls we get in but will probably be a few hours a month to start with and will likely lead to a couple service calls per month. The majority of jobs will be in the Augusta area but a few jobs (if you are willing to drive) might be within an hour plus plus drive. The vast majority of these local and out-of-town jobs would be independent work that is typically real flexible and can be scheduled around your work/school and family hours. Some of the work would need to be done "after retail hours - evenings" but could be scheduled any day/night of the week including weekends. Most of the work is interior so we hardly ever get rained out. The majority of the jobs are for quality national retail stores or restaurant chains. I will pay for ALL of your time and your gas to drive to and from these jobs whether it is for a survey, pictures, an estimate or the actual job itself. I would prefer that you are located in or near the Augusta area but if not, I may be able to draw another work radius around where you live if you reside further out (Athens, Macon, Atlanta etc.) I am looking for someone that has prior commercial construction experience in some or most of the 10 following tasks and trades for the future jobs that will come. If you specialize or are limited with the following trades, please let me know and I can contact you when I need your skill in your location as required (i.e., electrician, plumber, flooring guy, etc. - higher pay rates). 1. Repair or patch/fix/skim drywall (small jobs) and working with interior FRP wall panels/trim pieces 2. Prepare, prime and paint interior walls/doors (not big jobs - you must be able to paint!) 3. Install commercial metal frames/doors/hardware/closers/panic bars/accessories 4. Repair/replace ceiling grid and tile or other various carpentry type repairs including commercial wire shelving. 5. Install wood trim/rubber base + light floor repairs (ceramic/grouting/vinyl/carpet)(small jobs) 6. Repair/adjust/install cabinet doors/drawers/hardware + bathroom hardware/accessories/grab bars 7. Be able to repair dumpster enclosures/swinging gates/fences and other misc. exterior repairs. 8. Have some light electrical skills for replacing electrical receptacles, replacing a 2x4 ceiling light fixtures or more. 9. Chip out ceramic-quarry tiles, set new tiles, grout and clean-up (small jobs) 10. Have some light plumbing experience for fixing drainage pipes/supply lines under a sink. You would need to have your own basic hand/power tools, own a reliable vehicle (preferably a pick-up truck or SUV but not required) and PPE Please DO NOT apply if you: are not physically fit (must be able to pick up 40 lbs.), use/abuse alcohol/drugs or have a recent felony conviction, are not punctual, are not organized, have personal hygiene issues, do not communicate well, are not able to work well with others or are not able to follow simple instructions (see my request for how to reply below)! You must be at least 25 years old, speak and understand English, be able to add/subtract and use a tape measure, have a state issued driver's license, have good hygiene/manners/people skills and own reliable transportation. You must be able to pass a drug test and background check. You also must own a smart phone that can take and send pictures to an e-mail address. Lastly, you must be able to COMMUNICATE throughout the job (ie: visit a store, look at the issue, give a quick estimate of the material and labor needed to do the job, go buy the materials {I pay VISA over the phone for anything above minor costs}, do the work, get a sign-off, take some pictures and then send {e-mail} me the info). I do not want to have to baby sit you! This is not a job for someone who needs me to put gas in their car to go look at the project or is down to their last dime. I don't want any drama and I am sure you don't want it from me either! I want you to be an independent sub-contractor but at the same time keep me up to date of what is going on with the job. I pay very quickly by sending a check by USPS out to you within 24 hours of you finishing a job. I get paid 90 days after I submit a billing to the corporate office. If you have read and understand all of the above, please send me a short e-mail with the following: 1. Commercial construction experience 2. If you own your own tools/PPE and what kind of vehicle you drive. 3. Your phone number so I can call you (I will be calling from a 205 phone prefix). I usually wait a few days to call someone after I review multiple replies. What is the best time for me to call you? Please make sure your voice-mail is set up! 4. Your name and what name you like to be called 5. What general area of town do you live in? I do not need your street address! 6. What hours you typically have available to work and what you are currently doing? 7. Anything else about yourself that would be helpful for me to know. The applicants who typically have been hired in other southeastern cities, answer each question in order numerically and only send a resume if they have answered the 6 or 7 questions. If you DO NOT answer the six (6) questions above (you will FAIL the open book written test) and I will NOT call you. You are welcome to also include a resume but answering the 6 or 7 questions is critical! I have found that the people who can not answer these simple questions can not usually communicate very well. I own a small growing construction company which specializes in the interior construction and renovation of commercial retail stores. I have been in business since 2001 and work with a wide variety of well-known national retail stores. I have plenty of references that you can contact if you are concerned that this is scam. This is not a one and done proposition nor will it ever lead to a full-time job. It is what it is, part-time flexible work where you can use your construction talents and communication skills to make good money on the side. Business is starting to pick up in Georgia and is making it where I need to hire someone in the Augusta market area.
