MILWAUKEE, WI — Four baby red squirrels were admitted to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at the Wisconsin Humane Society after they were found in the American Family Field parking lot Thursday. The squirrels were dehydrated and underweight when they were found, but they are doing better now, the humane society said. The largest squirrel in the group has just opened his eyes — a milestone that happens after four weeks of age, the humane society said. The four squirrels were dubbed the "tiny tailgaters," Wisconsin Humane Society spokesperson Angela Speed told Patch. The squirrels will be released near an appropriate habitat for red squirrels when the they're old and strong enough, Speed added. People should reach out to their local wildlife rehabilitation center if they find a baby animal in need because of the specialized care they need, the organization said. Here's a guide on what to do if you find a young squirrel that appears orphaned.
