ISLIP, NY—A banner across Montauk Highway in Islip Village says "Islip supports its own Chris Wade." Chris Wade is a MMA fighter who was a state champion wrestler at Islip High School. Dubbed the "Long Island Killer" Wade will fight in the semifinals of the Professional Fighters League (PFL) championships Friday night at 10 p.m. Wade is competing for the world title and $1 million dollar prize for his featherweight division. This will be his third time competing in the PFL playoffs. The fighter and 33-year-old father of one has to defeat favored Bubba Jenkins to make it to the final round. He trains at Long Island MMA and co-owns the Islip location of the gym. The fight will air on ESPN2. "I can't lie. I'm extremely motivated by the fact that people find [his opponent Jenkins] to be a clear-cut, in their mind, favorite in this bout," Wade told reporters recently.
