One Teen Arrested, Another Critically Injured In Seattle Shootout

SEATTLE — Two teens exchanged gunfire outside a Hillman City middle school Thursday evening, leaving one boy with critical injuries and another in police custody, according to the Seattle Police Department. Officers arrived outside Aki Kurose Middle School around 6:30 p.m. and found a 17-year-old boy in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. According to SPD, officers provided aid until Seattle Fire Department medics arrived and took the boy to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Witnesses told police the boy was sitting on the steps at the school when he was approached by a 14-year-old boy, and both began shooting. Police said the 14-year-old ran away from the scene but was soon found hiding in a yard, and a police K-9 found a located a handgun in some bushes. The younger boy was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of first-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. The police department's Gun Violence Reduction Unit will complete a full investigation.
