Here are the top stories in Houston today: Houston can learn a thing or two from New Orleans. As Louisiana is preparing for Hurricane Ida, New Orleans is allowing people to park their cars on medians and neutral areas to help keep them from flooding. With Houston's flooding issues, it could be a measure worth looking into for the city. (Chron) A March On For Voting Rights event organized by Black Male Voter Project will take place in Houston on Saturday morning. March On For Rights marches and events are being held all over the country on the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech. (Houston Patch) Two men have been charged with capital murder in the slaying of New Orleans police officer Everett Briscoe at a Houston restaurant last weekend. District Attorney Kim Ogg said the men were out on bond from other charges. (KHOU.com) Hurricane Ida upgraded from tropical storm status just before making landfall at the Isle of Youth and western Cuba on Friday. The Category 1 storm is still on track for landfall in Louisiana, and hurricane watches have been issued from Cameron, Louisiana, to the Mississippi-Alabama border.
