ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A silver alert was issued for a south county man Thursday after he got turned around while driving home on the Interstate 5 and ended up in Mexico, Orange County Sheriff's Department San Clemente reported.
United States Border Patrol authorities said Robert Francis Novak, 84, crossed the San Ysidro border into Mexico at 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning. His last known location was in Tecate, Mexico. Novak has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and has the early appearance of dementia, OCSD reported. He was last seen driving his white 2018 Chevrolet Trax LS. The U.S. Border Patrol is helping to find Novak in Mexico.
Reportedly, Novak was coming home from a doctors appointment Wednesday evening when he "disoriented and continued to drive southbound on the 5 freeway," authorities reported on Facebook. Novak was on the phone with his wife all night but was unable to find his way back to his home.
Novak stands at 5 foot 10 and has white hair, brown eyes and weighs about 180 pounds.
Anyone who has seen Novak's vehicle or has had any contact with him is asked to call OCSD at (714)-647-4579.
