CONCORD, NH — Concord is the first community in New Hampshire to be named a "veteran-friendly" business. Officials said on Thursday the city had been recognized as a Bronze NH Veteran-Friendly Business. The program recognizes entities that value the contributions of service members, veterans and their families, as well as support military and veteran families by identifying veteran‐friendly businesses. The effort, too, works to match talented and skilled veterans with employment positions in New Hampshire businesses. The Department of Military Affairs & Veterans Services and NH Employment Security "celebrates and partners with businesses and organizations" that strive to "Honor, Fortify, Empower and positively Impact the lives of NH Services Members, Veterans and their Families," according to the city. "We are very pleased, as a city and an employer, to receive this designation as a NH Veteran-Friendly Business," Jennifer Johnston, the director of Human Resources and Labor Relations, said. "We strive to welcome and recruit service members, while also providing support to our veteran employees and their families. One of our supervisors was awarded the Patriotic Employer Award a couple of years ago for his support of employees who serve in the NH Army National Guard, and this is just one example of how we are committed to representing this program." Paul Lloyd, a Concord veteran who is the State Adjutant for the NH VFW for 2020-2021, organizes parades, and is very active in veteran affairs, said the designation was great news. "Anytime we get to promote employers for reaching out and hiring our veterans for their unique talents is a win-win situation," he said. The bronze designation signifies the city worked to "highlight and promote strategies, policies and practices that recognize and honor the service and sacrifice of military-connected employees through approved criteria," officials said.
