Description
OAK LAWN, IL — Summer is winding down, and Oak Lawn police has enacted their Labor Day traffic safety campaign, along with some new slogans, such as "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," "If You Feel Different, You Drive Different" and "Drive High Get A DUI."
The high-visibility mobilization will run through the early morning hours of Sept. 7, to include the Labor Day holiday, focusing on impaired driving and other dangerous behavior.
"We need our community to understand that it's up to each of us to make the smart decision to drive sober on Labor Day and every day," said Sgt. M. Acke, of the Oak Lawn Police Department. "Motorists in Oak Lawn should expect stepped-up impaired driving patrols and seat-belt enforcement, particularly at night, when seat-belt usage rates are at their lowest."
Other police departments are conducting similar patrols from now until Labor Day in surrounding communities.
The Labor Day "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
