PITTSBURGH, PA — How well the Steelers perform during games at Heinz Field will play out over the next four months, but one thing is certain: the concession stands there are virtually guaranteed a winning season. A survey by financial website Finance Buzz indicates Steelers fans are far from frugal when it comes to spending money on food and drinks while rooting the team on to what hopefully will be a victory. Finance Buzz asked more than 1,500 fans representing every team in the league how much they spend on food, alcohol and fan apparel. Steelers fans ranked eighth in the league when it comes to total spending for their party on eats and beverages at $115.19. Houston Texans fans ranked first at $169.95, while Arizona Cardinals fans finished last at a paltry $82.17. Black and gold fans also ranked eighth in in-stadium alcoholic beverage spending for their party at $51.32, which isn't much, considering the steep price of beer and cocktails at the stadium. New Orleans Saints followers spent the most at $64.18; sobriety-focused Carolina Panthers fans spent the least at just $15.04. Perhaps because they spend so much on food and drink, Steelers fans ranked just 22nd out of 32 fan bases when it came to spending on team apparel and merchandise over the course of a season at $119.04. Houston Texans fans again ranked first at $380.17, while Indianapolis Colts fans - perhaps embarrassed to be sporting clothing adorned with a horseshoe - spent just $85.34.
