PITTSBURGH, PA — Burlington will move its Downtown Pittsburgh store several blocks down Smithfield Street from the Heinz 57 Center in the old Gimbel's department store to the former Kaufmann's store. Lubert-Adler Partners, which is overseeing efforts to fill the Kaufmann's Grand space, as it is now known, confirmed the move Friday. Burlington will occupy about 50,000 square feet of the building and the store will have its entrance at the corner of Smithfield and Forbes avenue. Most of the store will be located on the building's second floor. No opening date was announced, but construction will begin as soon as the necessary permits are obtained. Burlington will be at the opposite end of the block from a new Target moving into the development at the corner of Smithfield and Fifth Avenue underneath the Kaufmann's clock. The 22,000 square-foot store is expected to open next spring. Lubert-Adler said in a release that it is continuing to explore options to add another national retailer along Smithfield to complement the existing-retail tenant mix. The 13-story Kaufmann's building also houses 311 luxury apartments and the Even Hotel. Be the first to know what's happening in your community and region.
