JOLIET, IL — A Georgia semi-trailer driver was involved in a crash Friday morning in downtown Joliet that knocked over a traffic light in front of the Joliet Public Library around 11:30 a.m. The Georgia man was cited by Joliet police on two criminal offenses, police said. The crash caused Joliet police and city of Joliet public works crews to shut down North Ottawa Street, which is U.S. Route 6 and Illinois Route 53. Several police officers were on hand to divert traffic and semi-trailers toward Joliet Street in front of the Harrah's Casino. By noon, Joliet's public works crews were using heavy-duty equipment to dismantle the broken traffic light at the corner of Clinton Street and Route 6. A semi-trailer crashed into a downtown Joliet traffic light, destroying it, late Friday morning, in front of the former St. Mary's Carmelite Catholic Church.
