SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — More West Nile virus cases have been found in mosquitoes in Santa Clara County, officials said in a news release Friday.
The positive tests were discovered in adult mosquitoes in the 94086, 84087 and 95051 zip codes, which include parts of Sunnyvale and Santa Clara. On Tuesday, the county announced positive cases were detected in the Gilroy area.
The county is planning mosquito treatment in the areas of Sunnyvale and Santa Clara on Monday at 10 p.m. A map of the area is below. There is no need to relocate during the treatment, officials said.
A truck-mounted adult mosquito control treatment has been scheduled in the area to prevent human cases of WNV. (Santa Clara County) West Nile virus does not cause symptoms in most people but can cause fever, headache and in the most severe cases, neurological damage or death.
The district advises people to drain or dump standing water to prevent mosquitoes from laying their eggs there.
